Biography
Stefanos Dimitriou is considered to be one of the most in demand session drummers in Greece. With over 25 years of live performance, a wealth of teaching performance and studio work behind him, Stefanos Dimitriou maintains a busy schedule in the music industry and is highly regarded in the business.
He studied drums at the Athens Conservatory and has attended drum lessons with top drummers such as Jim Chapin, Virgil Donati, Garry Novak, Will Kennedy, Nathaniel Townsley, Alex Acuna, Dennis Chambers, Jojo Mayer.
He has also attended seminars with several distinguished and well known drummers including Steve Gadd, Steve Smith, Thomas Lang, Dom Famularo, Horacio ''El negro'' Hermandez, Dave Weckl, Lenny White, Akira Jimbo, Kirk Covington.
His first exposure to drum sessions began with the band of Vasilis Papakonstantinou, an association that lasted 8 years. Since then he has played and toured with a wide range of renowned Greek artists including Mikis Theodorakis, Haris Alexiou, George Dalaras, Eleutheria Arvanitaki, Tania Tsanaklidou and Sakis Rouvas. In addition to his musical collaborations he has a numerous of record studios, television appearances and tours around the globe. Stefanos Dimitriou has also been invited and performed live with Arturo Sandoval, the distinguished Trumpet Player in the Athens Concert Hall and in the Municipal Theatre of Volos.
Throughout the last five years he played and toured with the band of Michalis Hatzigiannis and just recently rejoined the group Of Vasilis Papakonstantinou.
Alongside other musicians, he forms a jazz group called Loud Jazz and then Trias with whom he releases a live cd "Theatro". Then with George Kiourtsoglou and Stavros Lantsias create another band the"Power Trio". Nowadays with the association of Christoforos krokidis has founded a rock band entitled "Volume".
Stefanos Dimitriou has performed various drums clinics in several Schools of Music such as "Filippos Nakkas" ",Polyrhythmia" and "Fakanas".
Moreover he has taken part in drum camp of Modern Music School in Germany with drummers such as: Thomas Lang, Johnny Rabb, Steve Alexander, Ralf Godlieb.
He was also a group member of the great Greek bass player George Fakanas where he performed in several concerts with the "YFG" and had the chance to play with some of the greatest musicians introduced, such as Greg Howe,Alex Machacek and the living Bass Legend Anthony Jackson.
Stefanos Dimitriou is an active player, educator and clinician and is endorsed by Vick Firth Sticks and Zildjian Cymbals.
A book is going to be issued soon. The book's concept it's about odd subdivision groupings, stickings and phrases.
